The D.E.C. School Thankorosidia Old Students Association (DECTOSA) respectfully honours and recognizes the founders, town elders, and education leaders whose vision, leadership, and commitment made the establishment of D.E.C. School Thankorosidia possible.
The founding of the school on Monday, September 4, 1972, was not an accident of history. It was the result of deliberate effort, community unity, and sustained consultation between the people of Thankorosidia, district education authorities, and the Ministry of Education. At a time when access to formal education was limited in rural communities, these elders stood firm in their belief that education was essential for progress, dignity, and the future of their children.
We especially recognize the role of the town elders of Thankorosidia, led by Alhaji Mohamed Fofanah, who championed the cause of education and represented the community in several consultative meetings with the District Education Committee (D.E.C.), education authorities in Kabala, and the Ministry of Education. Their leadership, wisdom, and persistence laid the administrative and moral foundation upon which the school was built.
We also acknowledge the contributions of district-level education officials, inspectors, supervisors, and committee members who provided guidance, authorization, and oversight during the school’s formative period. Their presence on the opening day and their continued engagement in the early years of the school reflected a strong partnership between government institutions and the local community.
Many of these founders and elders have since passed on. We honour their memory with gratitude and humility. Their sacrifices live on through the generations of pupils who passed through the gates of D.E.C. School Thankorosidia—many of whom now serve as professionals, leaders, and contributors to society both in Sierra Leone and abroad.
This page stands as a permanent record of appreciation and respect. DECTOSA commits to preserving the names, stories, and contributions of these founders and elders so that present and future generations may understand that the progress we enjoy today was built on the wisdom, courage, and selflessness of those who came before us.
May their legacy continue to guide us.
