The strength of D.E.C. School Thankorosidia Old Students Association (DECTOSA) extends beyond Sierra Leone and is reflected in the contributions of former students living abroad. Currently, in the United States of America, there are approximately ten former pupils of D.E.C. School Thankorosidia. Among them are professionals serving in key fields, including nurses, and one medical doctor who is also an aspiring candidate for the Presidency of Sierra Leone in the 2028 national elections. Their achievements stand as a testament to the enduring impact of the education received at our alma mater.
Here in Canada, I presently stand as the only former student of D.E.C. School Thankorosidia. I bring with me over 21 years of professional experience with the University of Winnipeg, followed by three years of service with the Government of Manitoba. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to public service, community development, and organizational leadership.
In support of DECTOSA’s development objectives, plans are underway to organize major fundraising activities in the coming summer. These initiatives are intended to mobilize resources in support of much-needed school improvements and modernization efforts. Planned activities include:
- A Dinner and Dance Fundraising Event, with invitations extended to coworkers, members of the local African community, and supportive Canadian friends
- A Community Car Wash
- A Barbecue Fundraiser, to be hosted at my residence
These activities will not only raise funds but also build awareness, strengthen community ties, and promote collective ownership of the development goals of D.E.C. School Thankorosidia.
Through the combined efforts of old students at home and in the diaspora, DECTOSA remains committed to transforming our school and ensuring that future generations benefit from improved facilities and opportunities.
